When a person is mentally handicapped, they are often looked at as “different” from other people. Though they may have some type of physiological disorder, they are still human beings that should be treated with respect and the same way everyone else is treated.
When it comes to sports and the mentally handicapped, it’s important they have a chance to take part in them as well. Though they may not be as good at playing as non-mentally handicapped people, there are some reasons sports for the mentally handicapped are so important:
Gets them having fun: A mentally handicapped person is often depressed or feels down. Playing sports or even watching them is a great way for them to have fun like everyone else.
Great exercise: It’s important that everyone takes part in exercise. Exercise is great for the mind and the body and can help a person out in so many ways. From keeping a person from being overweight, reducing their risk of disease, to lowering their blood pressure and cholesterol levels, a person can benefit in so many more ways than one.
Gets them socializing: When a person takes part in sports, they often are able to socialize. Whether they become a good team player or they simply talk about the game with someone else, it gets them to socialize.
Take their mind of things: Playing or watching sports is a great way for someone to take their mind of the everyday stresses.
Lift their mood: Playing and watching sports can easily lift a person’s mood. When someone is happy, they release “feel good” hormones.
As you can see, there are some great reasons that the mentally handicapped should take part in sports. Though not everyone is interested in sports, any person can benefit from them in many different ways.
